Cloetta Fazer is continuing its efforts to reduce environmental impact and implement systematic quality management. The company complies with all official environmental requirements and is not party to any environmental disputes. As the leader in the Nordic confectionery market, Cloetta must preserve and nurture the strong confidence placed in the company by consumers. Cloetta Fazer strives to exceed the requirements of consumers, customers and other stakeholders, not only with regard to environment and quality but also areas such as ethics and product safety.
Environmental work
In 2007, both environmental and quality management were clarified and strengthened. Awareness about the effects of different manufacturing processes on the environment and quality is enhanced through a structured and detailed process for measurement, monitoring and action. Frequent follow-up and evaluation of methods creates knowledge about “best practice” and provides a decision basis for activities that improve quality and environmental management and contributes to more clearly defined goal formulations.
Environmental work in the various production facilities is coordinated through an environment council that is responsible for monitoring goal attainment. The environmental council is headed by the respective production manager and is made up of representatives from key areas
such as energy, effluents, solid waste, quality and process development.
One explicit ambition is to significantly reduce raw material wastage in production, which will have a positive effect both on the environment, through lower energy usage, and on the Group’s cost mass.
Prioritised environmental areas
Efforts to reduce environmental impact in production are being carried out through ISO 14001-certified environmental management systems and are focused on the following areas:
• Conservation of energy, water and raw materials
• Reduction of wastewater emissions and solid waste
• Lower carbon dioxide emissions
• Reduced wastage
Certification
The production units in Finland have been certified according to ISO 14001 since the late 1990s. The production unit in Ljungsbro were certified in 2004 and the unit in Alingsås received BRC certification in 2007. The certificates are revised and renewed continuously.
