Net sales

The total Nordic confectionery market amounts to around 280,000 tonnes annually, or SEK 30 billion in consumer sales.

Sweden is the Nordic region’s largest single market, accounting for around a third of total consumption. Next largest is Finland, followed by Denmark and Norway. The largest export markets outside the Nordic region are the Baltic countries and Russia.

Consumption per land

Per capita confectionery consumption is fairly evenly spread among the Nordic countries. The Swedes, Danes and Finns eat more sugar confectionery, while the Norwegians prefer chocolate.

The Nordic confectionery market is comparatively mature, with insignificant growth of around zero or a few per cent for several years. The exception is Finland, where the confectionery market has grown by an average of 2.5 per cent annually over the past five years. However, growth varies considerably between product segments. The Nordic countries account for roughly 2 per cent of total global confectionery consumption.
